Shown above is a billboard mockup with the Cape Town logo featuring a Baobab tree.
At this point I began playing with different concepts using various type and imagery until I landed on the current logo direction.
Here are a few rounds of digital drafts for the logo and icons that would later be used for branding.

In addition to the mockups, I drafted a copy of brand guidelines in a single page style.
